Five must watch TV shows this Autumn

The end of British Summer Time might feel a little gloomy, but autumn brings a spectacular TV lineup, packed with must-watch shows that you won’t want to miss.

Down Cemetery Road


Apple TV is set to debut a gripping new detective drama from the creator of Slow Horses. Mick Herron, author of four novels featuring private detective Zöe Boehm, will see his 2003 debut, Down Cemetery Road, adapted for the screen for the first time. The series stars Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson and kicks off with a house explosion in a quiet Oxford suburb and the disappearance of a young girl. Concerned neighbour Sarah (Wilson) becomes fixated on finding the missing child and enlists Boehm (Thompson) to help solve the mystery.

Wild Cherry


What does your teenage daughter really get up to when you drop her off at school—or at a friend’s house? When she attends a prestigious private school and all her friends live in a gated enclave in the leafy Home Counties, it’s easy to assume everything is perfectly fine. But as Lorna (Carmen Ejogo) and Juliet (Eve Best) are about to discover, appearances can be deceiving. This is the premise of an enticing new series from BAFTA winner Nicôle Lecky—who also stars.

The Death Of Bunny Munro


Matt Smith stars in Sky’s new adaptation of musician Nick Cave’s second novel, The Death of Bunny Munro. The series kicks off with a shocking loss: the death of Bunny’s wife, mother to his young son, Bunny Jr. Heartbroken yet defiant, the charming rogue Bunny embarks on a hedonistic road trip to numb his grief—bringing his son along for the chaotic journey.

Lazarus


Launching this October, Lazarus written by Harlan Coben and stars Sam Claflin and Bill Nighy and signals a bold departure from Coben’s usual style. Created with longtime collaborator Danny Brocklehurst, this six-part thriller takes the form of a haunting ghost story, following a troubled forensic psychologist who starts experiencing unsettling visitations after his father’s death.

Trespasses


Few things are as tantalizing as a forbidden romance—but what if it’s between a Catholic teacher and an older Protestant barrister in 1970s Belfast? This is the premise of Trespasses, starring Lola Petticrew, Tom Cullen, and Gillian Anderson. Louise Kennedy’s Women’s Prize-shortlisted novel is now being adapted for the small screen, weaving a story of forbidden love set against the turbulent backdrop of Northern Ireland’s Troubles.
