Gardeners' Choice
As we prepare for Spring, we reached out to local landscape gardeners to ask which plants they would recommend for gardens in 2025
Spring is a perfect time to plant summer flowering bulbs such as alium, lilies and agapanthus. Our recommendation for a plant that would thrive in the Wentworth area and give all year round interest would be Skimmia. This is an evergreen shrub that has fragrant white blooms in early spring, and the female plants produce striking red or white berries throughout the winter.

One of our all time favourite plants, is the Hydrangea Annabelle, it has huge globes of tightly packed, creamy white bracts that look like giant snowballs during the summer months. As autumn progresses, the flower heads fade to pale lime and the dark green, pointed leaves turn soft yellow. We’ve used the plant in many of our garden designs, including the grand avenue at Monkey Island Estate which is a showstopper and lends itself to weddings during the summer months. With a flowering period of 4 months, its value for money and with the right garden lighting, the plant looks incredible at night. This particular species, thrives in full sun or partial shade and tolerates most soils, providing its moist but well drained. For impact, plant in groups or clusters.
